Taiwan’s Office of Trade Negotiations characterized the first major tariff discussions with the US as "frank and cordial," with both parties committing to further dialogue. The island nation—a critical global supplier of semiconductors—faced a potential 32% import tax from the Trump administration before a 90-day reprieve on reciprocal tariffs was granted last month.
This temporary relief enabled Taiwan to propose tariff eliminations and increased purchases of US goods, alongside expanded investments in strategic sectors. While the American delegation roster remains undisclosed, the substantive talks in Washington are set to continue, with both governments emphasizing momentum preservation.
